Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know about RW Diamonds, our stones, the made-to-order process, pricing, delivery, and our guarantee. If your question is not here, please reach us through the Contact page.

Our diamonds

Are RW diamonds lab-grown or mined?

All RW Diamonds are lab-grown. They are optically, chemically, and physically identical to mined diamonds, the only difference is origin. Every stone is graded and certified.

Are your diamonds certified?

Yes. Every centre stone over 0.30ct is accompanied by an IGI certificate, and each diamond is laser-inscribed on the girdle with its certificate number for proof of identity.

Which diamond shapes do you offer?

Round Brilliant, Emerald, Princess, Oval, Marquise, Pear, and Radiant. Every cut is sourced to order and set to your specification.

Ordering & design

How does the made-to-order process work?

You choose your design, carat weight, metal, and stone grade, then place your order. We prepare a CAD design and, if you choose to, send a final design image for sign-off. Once approved, the piece is hand-made and set, then delivered in 2–4 weeks.

Can I see the design before it is made?

Yes. After the CAD stage we send you a final design image for sign-off if you would like to review it. Production begins once you approve (or once you waive the optional sign-off window).

Can I commission something fully custom?

Absolutely. Use the Commission a Piece page to tell us what you have in mind, a reference image, a sketch, or a description. We will come back with a design and a price.

Which metals can I choose?

18k yellow, white, and rose gold, platinum, plus 14k and 9k gold options on selected designs. Most pieces default to 18k yellow gold; metal choice adjusts the price. If you have a nickel allergy, we can make 14k or 18k white gold in a nickel-free alloy, just let us know when you order or commission.

Can you make a ring in nickel-free white gold?

Yes. If you have a nickel sensitivity or allergy, we can produce your ring in nickel-free 14k or 18k white gold. Nickel-free alloys use palladium instead of nickel as the whitening metal, so they cost a little more and may take slightly longer to source. Mention this in your design brief or order notes and we will confirm the option and price before production begins.

Pricing

Why are your prices lower than traditional jewellers?

We make lab-grown diamonds to order, with no traditional retail markup. You are buying the stone and the craft, not a high-street margin.

What affects the price of a piece?

Carat weight is the main driver, followed by the cut, clarity (VVS1, VVS2, VS1), colour (DF, FG, HI), and metal. Each option updates the live price on the product page.

Are prices in New Zealand Dollars?

Yes, all prices are in NZD and include GST where applicable. Prices are confirmed at the point of order.

Delivery, returns & guarantee

How long does delivery take?

Made-to-order pieces are delivered within 2–4 weeks of design sign-off, fully insured and tracked. Stock or ready-to-ship pieces dispatch within 1–3 business days.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes. We ship insured and tracked from Auckland, New Zealand, to most countries. International orders may attract duties or taxes payable on arrival.

Can I return a piece?

Because each piece is made to order for you, change-of-mind returns are not available, but your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 are fully preserved. If a piece is faulty or not as ordered, we will repair, replace, or refund.

Can I get my ring resized?

Yes, one complimentary resize is available within 60 days of delivery. Further resizing is offered at a reasonable cost. Some designs cannot be resized and will be noted at the point of order.

What does the guarantee cover?

Every RW piece in 9k, 14k, 18k gold or platinum is guaranteed against manufacturing defects for the lifetime of the original owner. If a genuine making fault appears, we repair or replace the piece at no cost to you, shipping included. It covers casting and metal defects, faulty settings, plating faults at delivery, and stones lost from a proven setting fault. It does not cover everyday wear and tear, accidental damage, chipped or lost stones, loss, theft, or work by another jeweller. We recommend insuring your piece for those, and booking your complimentary annual clean and setting check so wear is caught early.
